Pluto Marine Observatory

The Panama Liquid Jungle Laboratory Underwater Tropical Observatory camera is a submerged, remotely operated, marine science observatory situated at 18 meters depth (about 60 feet) of water.

This submarine node was designed in order to understand the complex interplay between land, atmosphere and the ocean environments.

PLUTO transmits real-time data and underwater images coming from the Pacific coast of Panama via a submarine fiber-optic cable connected to the Liquid Jungle Lab. http://4dgeo.whoi.edu/panama

The observatory consists of sensors that measure salinity, temperature (throughout the water column), pressure (tides), water velocity/direction (ocean currents), chlorophyll, turbidity (water clarity), oxygen, Photosynthetically Available Radiation (amount of light reaching the bottom), and an underwater camera.
