Who we are

The Liquid Jungle Lab is a Marine and Terrestrial Science Consortium Laboratory located off the Pacific Coast of the Republic of Panama.

The primary partners in this consortium are the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Scientists, University Faculty, Post Docs, Graduate Students, and Individual Research Fellows may apply online by submitting an LJL research proposal that describes funding sources, timeline, project rational, and methods.

Field courses for up to 12 graduate or undergraduate students may be requested on a case-by-case basis. A scientific board reviews and approves all project proposals.

The LJL encourages primary and applied research in the fields of tropical island ecology, marine biology, physical oceanography, marine biogeochemistry, aquaculture, genetics, molecular biology, herpetology, botany, ornithology, entomology, ecosystem conservation, island biogeography, geology, fisheries management, tropical forest ecology, agro-forestry, veterinary science, and organic agriculture.
